The African Studies Program offers a broad range of courses on the history of Africa as well as contemporary African issues. Students can also explore the themes of culture, ethnicity, and identity in Africa.

Explore African Studies Courses

The University of Oregon course catalog offers degree plans and a complete list of courses in the African Studies Program. Here are some tips for registration:

  • Make sure you meet prerequisites before you register. If you don’t, contact the course instructor to request enrollment approval.
  • Watch for enrollment requirements. Some courses are offered by other departments or programs that have their own requirements for enrolling.
  • Read titles for “Topics” courses that change titles. You can take different titled “Topics” courses multiple times if the titles fulfill your requirements.
  • Register for individualized study courses separately. Learn about individualized/independent study.
