Prominent economist to visit UO, discuss AI, the economy and careers

What happen to jobs, wages, and opportunity as AI transforms the labor market? Join leading University of Michigan (UM) professor of public policy and economics Betsey Stevenson for a conversation on research, policy, and what today's students should know about tomorrow's workforce. 

The Department of Economics and Macmillan Learning hosts a conversation with Stevenson to hear about the future job market and how AI could impact your career. The event is 3-3:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 in Lawrence 177. 

In addition to Stevenson's work at UM, she serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Lyft, a faculty research associate at the National Bureau of Economic research, a research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London, a fellow of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich, and an elected member of the National Academy of Social Insurance. 

As a public servant, she was a member of the Biden-Harris transition team at the US Treasury, a member of President Barack Obama's Council of Economic Advisers from 2013 to 2015, where she advised the Obama administration on social policy, the labor market and trade issues. From 2010 to 2011, she was the Chief Economist of the U.S. Department of Labor.
